Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a synthetic polymer with closed lattice structure of air-filled spherical particles, known also as polystyrene (Styropor)


Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a synthetic polymer foam with closed lattice structure of air-filled spherical particles. It is a micro-porous synthetic organic material, with 95% air of its volume, closed in the areas of the polymer grid (approximately 5109 per 1m³). EPS is also known as polystyrene (Styropor is a trademark of BASF and indicates the name of the raw material for the EPS production), is an insulation material, proven in the time, without which modern construction would be unthinkable now. Due to its excellent thermal isolation properties with good mechanical strength, low deformability, limited vapor permeability and fire resistance (Class E), the white insulation boards have proven themselves for the past 40 years and have won a firm and undeniable place in modern construction.

The products are formed by plates of different sizes - width of up to 100 cm, length of up to 250 cm and thicknesses from 1 cm to 60 cm. It is possible to be backed with waterproof or adhesive matters. The most common EPS application is as a bonded exterior facade isolation. It is used also for ventilated, suspended facades, as a middle layer in double walls, for straight, reversed and pitched (sloped) roofs, under basement tiles, etcetera.
